Not the best start to my 2006 New Year.
My poker bankroll took a short term hit. I was playing the No Limit games and lacking patience. What a lethal combination! Kids, don't try this at home. I'm a poker player, but I don't play one on television! I don't recommend this type of play. My only bright spots were my two laydowns, and I was typed the term NLD; "Nice Lay Down" to me twice. Perhaps that's as good as raking a pot?
Perhaps.
The First time on was in a multi-table tournament and three people are all-in pre-flop and I'm sitting with pocket QQ who made the initial raise. So, it's was a Limper, My Raise about 4x the blind bet....All-in...All-in....Limper goes All-In. So, I now know that 4-way action is going to crush my queens. Someone's on a bigger pair and someone could be holding a Queen as well, and 4-way action will destroy even AA, so I fold QQ for only the second time in my life before the flop. Revealed are AK, KK, and AQ from the limper. Long story short is the KK hold up and my laydown of QQ was certainly a nice one.
2nd NLD was in a heads-up situation with the blinds. Me, the small blind with AJ suited. I put in a 3x the blind raise and this dude goes way over the top All-In and it's about 60 minutes into the tourney. I hem and haw for about 15 seconds (doh!) and laydown the hand. I decide to "Fold and Show" and he obliges revealing Pocket AA's or The Rockets Red Glare as I like to say....
NLD he says.....whew.
Those laydowns were the only bright spot of the weekend.
What a vital attribute that can be developed here. The art of the laydown. Both times, I acted on correct information and this was a truly bright spot in a lost weekend.
The Disciples of Poker play this WED at Ultimate Bet. We will have 27 players and I'm looking forward to adding to my win streak of 1, since I won the stud event.
